Our Business

When was Tidalworks created?

In 1998 several design professionals (including myself) came together to create Tidalworks, and bring high quality logo design to the new technology everyone was talking about - the Internet.  We set out to become one of the premier logo design sites on the World Wide Web.  With hard work we achieved this goal, and several years later after helping pioneer the logo design industry on the Internet, we are still bringing high quality logo design at a fraction of the price.

Where is Tidalworks located?

We are located in St. Charles, IL, about 40 miles west of Chicago, IL.

How many people work at Tidalworks Logo Design?

Our team is small and effective, consisting of a group of under 20 project managers, designers, marketing, business, and internet experts..

Do you serve international customers as well?

Yes:)  We do ask however, that international customers do not expect to provide their payment information over the phone.  Because of the vast time differences and difficult phone call standards we ask that international customers either pay by credit card online, or send the appropriate US check or money order to our address.

Our Logo Design Process

What type of software is used to create my logo?

We use several different graphics programs to design our logos - notably Adobe Illustrator, and Corel Draw.  These programs provide the tools we need to create great designs, that are editable and scalable without quality loss.

What is the turnaround time, when can I see my designs?

Your initial logo designs will be completed within 3 days of placing your order. Expedited turnaround time is available for an extra $100, and your project will be moved to top priority on our list.

How long does the whole logo design process typically take?

Typically, the whole process takes somewhere around 1-3 weeks to get the final designs in your hands.  This depends largely on several things - how close we get on the first set to exactly what you are looking for, how quickly you respond with your comments, and how well both parties communicate to resolve any issues with the logo design.

How many logo design samples will I get?

On the first set we usually deliver 5-7 unique logo designs. Then, we work from there to improve upon your design until we come up with a winning logo.  There are unlimited revisions included on your design, and we will work until your are completely satisfied.

Can you rework our companies existing design?

Yes, just submit your images over the project manager, or send us an email.

I have some images, ideas and samples to show you, how can I do that?

As mentioned above, the best way is to submit them via the project manager, or send us an email.

What are the most common difficulties in the logo design process?

In order to avoid difficulties that may arise in the design phase, it is important that you keep the following considerations in mind. First of all, ideas are good, but make sure that you don’t have a pixel for pixel image in your head of what you want your logo to look like.  It is better to approach your logo design project with a mood of creativity.  Also, avoid team based design decisions.  Often, everyone on your team will have different expectations.  This may lead to a design process which travels in circles. It is more beneficial to select one or two individuals from your organization to take the reins on the project. Select someone that has a good taste in artwork, and shares the values and goals of the organization. Lastly, keep in mind, the best designs are simple, creative ones that grab your attention - not designs which are overly complicated.

How can I best communicate with my logo designer?

Communication is one of the most important parts of the design process.  To start, it is important to adequately convey what your company is looking for in your new logo. It is also essential to provide valuable feedback on the designs that are created. Let us know specifically what you like about each design, what you dislike, what you think about the fonts, and so on.  The best way to reach is us by using the online project manager. This section has been specifically designed to help make your project run as smoothly as possible.  This will usually get the quickest response, and it also allows us to have a copy of your comments to refer to at a later time.

How can I pay for my design?

We accept payment by credit card over the web, and over the phone, and also accept checks and money orders.  Once we receive payment, we can get started on your design.

What if I don’t like my logo?

Our logo designs come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, or your money back.  Furthermore, we will continue to work on improving your design until we have created a winning logo.  Many companies have a similar guarantee, only Tidalworks can say we rarely have to use it.

What are the most important things to think about regarding a new logo for my company?

Before you get started on your project, make sure you have a good idea about the image that your company wants to portray. What do you stand for and what do people think of when they hear your name? (exciting, technical, conservative.creative, colorful...)

How will I receive my final logo design?

Once we have finalized your design, we will immediately deliver the final logo design files via email. We will also send your logo design on CD through Priority mail.

Using Your New Logo

Will my company own all the rights on our design?

Yes, your company will own all the rights to the design. We just reserve the right to be able to show off your great new logo in our porftolio!

Will we be able to trademark our design?

Yes. We do not provide these services however, and you will have to go through the proper authority.  Check out our pages on Trademarking to learn a bit more.

How can my new logo be used?

Your new logo can be used on virtually everything - from business cards, to web sites, signs, t-shirts, and anything else you can think of.  Just provide your printer with the finalized design files and they can take it from there.

What are the different file formats best used for?

JPEG – Often used on the web, can be up to 24 bits of color, and multiple forms of compression can be used.  This means this is the file to use on your website if you want your logo in full color, especially if your design includes shading.

GIF – Another web format - can only have up to 256 colors, may take up less space – another option for your web site.

BMP or TIFF – Good for printing – has the highest quality image with the least compression.  This means it takes up the most disk space, so you won’t want to use this on your web site.

AI, EPS, and CDR - These three file formats are editable vector images.  If you have Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, or other graphics software you will be able to use these formats to make changes to your design.  These formats are also often used when dealing with printers for signs, business cards, stationery, or anything else you’re getting printed.

For more information please read our file format primer.

What if I need to change my design in the future?

If you have the need to change your design in the future, you can simply open up one of the editable vector formats with most popular graphics packages (Adobe Illustrator, Corel, Freehand...), and get to work.  We also offer free customer support on our designs, and are more than happy to help you update them in the future at discounted prices.
